# Corporate mode: overview

> How a corporate company on Exode differs from an online school: what is turned off, what is added and where to start training employees

Corporate mode is the version of Exode for training employees inside a company. Courses, lessons, practice,
groups and certificates work the same way as in an online school. But instead of sales and payments, the company has
an organization structure: departments, positions, grades and absence tracking. Courses are not sold. They are assigned
to employees manually, via a link or automatically by rules.

## How corporate mode is turned on

The mode is set for the whole company at once. There is no switch in the settings: the Exode team turns on corporate
mode when the company is connected or on request to support.

> [!NOTE]
>
> If you move an online school that is already running to corporate mode, all its courses become free and
> hidden from the catalog, and its users are placed in the default department. See
> [Company connection and setup](https://faq.exode.biz/en/corporate/setup.md) for details.

## How corporate mode differs from an online school

### What is turned off

A company has no money and no sales, so everything related to them is removed from the interface:

| What is hidden | Where it was in an online school |
| - | - |
| The **Sales** section: withdrawals, balance operations, invoices, installments, subscriptions | Manage menu |
| **Legal data**, **Payment acceptance**, **Subscription and tariff** | The **My school** section |
| Course prices, tariffs and promo codes, the **Launch and tariffs** item | Course menu |
| The “paid / free” choice when you create a course | Course creation window |
| The **Courses sold** and **Revenue** cards, the revenue chart | **Home** |
| The **Payments** tab in the user card | User card |
| The “School sales” and “School refunds” permissions | Administrator permission settings |
| Webhooks about payments, refunds and enrollment via payment | **For developers → Webhooks** |

All company courses are free. This rule always applies, and you cannot change it in the course settings.

### What is added

| Organization structure: departments, managers | **Company → Organization structure** | [Organization structure and departments](https://faq.exode.biz/en/corporate/departments.md) |

### What has a different name

| In an online school | In a company |
| - | - |
| The **My school** section | The **Company** section |
| **Team** | **Administrators** |
| “School name”, “School logo” and other settings fields | “Company name”, “Company logo” and so on |
| The “For sale” launch status | “Available for enrollment” |
| The “Free access (demo)” lesson | No demo lessons: the lesson access setting is not shown in a company |

### What changes by default

* **The company is closed for registration.** A new corporate company is created as private: only people added by an
administrator or invited via a link can sign up.
* **A new course is hidden from the catalog.** An employee gets it by assignment until you open enrollment.
* **A new course is visible only to its editors.** Other administrators do not see the course until you open it
to the whole team. Practice in it is checked only by the curators of this course's groups.
* **The tariff is changed by an Exode manager.** You cannot change the tariff or extend access yourself. For this,
the interface has a button to send a request to support.

## Key terms

| Term | What it is |
| - | - |
| **Company** | Your space on Exode: website, courses, employees and settings |
| **Department** | A division, branch or team. Departments are nested inside each other and form a tree |
| **Position** | The company's position directory. A position can be limited to specific departments |
| **Grade** | A step on the growth scale, for example Junior → Middle → Senior |
| **Employee** | A user who has at least one department. One person can belong to several departments |
| **Department manager** | An employee set as the manager of a department. Gets notifications when subordinates are ready for promotion |
| **Administrator** | A user with rights to manage the company |
| **Course assignment** | Granting an employee access to a course: manually, via a link or by an automatic assignment rule |

## Frequently asked questions

> **Can I switch my school to corporate mode myself?**
>
> No. There is no mode switch in the settings. The Exode team turns on corporate mode, so write to
> support.

> **Can I sell courses in corporate mode?**
>
> No. All company courses are free, and the sales, payments and tariffs sections are hidden. You cannot set a course
> price even in the launch settings.

> **What happens to the courses if I move a running school to corporate mode?**
>
> All courses become free and hidden from the catalog. Course launches are published with unlimited
> access, except for those you unpublished manually. Employees who already had access keep it.

> **How is an employee different from a regular user?**
>
> An employee is a user who has at least one department. In a company, you cannot create a
> user without a department. If you remove a person from their last department, they are dismissed and
> can no longer sign in.

> **Where did the “My school” section go?**
>
> In corporate mode it is called **Company**. It also contains the new sections: **Organization structure** and
> **Administrators**.

> **How do I change the tariff or extend the company's access?**
>
> Through your Exode manager. The company settings show the access status, and when a limit is reached,
> the interface offers to send a request to support.

> **Does the company have a course catalog?**
>
> Yes. But new courses do not appear in it: you decide which courses to show in the catalog and open for
> self-enrollment. See [Courses in a company](https://faq.exode.biz/en/corporate/courses.md).
