# Notifications

> Which events send notifications to students and the school team, through which channels they arrive and what you can turn off

The platform notifies students and the school team about important events on its own: new messages, payments, refunds, issued certificates. This page lists which events trigger notifications, who receives them and through which channels.

> [!WARNING]
>
> There are no notification settings for the school or for students right now. You cannot choose which events to send or turn off a separate channel. You can only turn off notifications for a specific chat and block notifications in the browser. The **Newsletters and notifications** page in the school section is empty for now, and there are no newsletters in the interface.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Notifications about payments, refunds and subscription charges arrive only in commercial schools: a corporate school has no sales.

## Channels

| Channel | What arrives |
| - | - |
| **Notification feed** | Payments, refunds, certificates, service messages for the school owner |
| **Push notifications** | Everything that goes to the feed, plus new messenger messages and team notifications about sales and refunds |
| **Email** | Payment confirmation for the student, team notifications about sales and refunds, service emails for the owner, login and password recovery codes, emails about a failed subscription charge |
| **Telegram** | Messages from the school bot: login details, password recovery code, failed subscription charge, invitations to the group's Telegram channel and chat |
| **SMS** | Login and password recovery codes, login details, failed subscription charge |

Push notifications arrive in the browser on a computer and in the mobile app — on every device where the user is signed in and has allowed notifications.

## Notifications for students

| Event | Channels | Notification text |
| - | - | - |
| New chat message | Push | Title — the chat name, text — the message text |

| Payment completed | Feed, push, email | “Payment completed” — “You have successfully paid for your order” |
| Refund completed | Feed, push | “Refund completed” — “We have processed your refund request” |
| Certificate issued | Feed, push | “You have received a certificate” — “The course «…» is completed — your certificate is already in your certificates section” |
| A subscription charge failed | SMS, email, Telegram | A message about the failed charge |
| Access closed after 4 failed charge attempts | SMS, email, Telegram | A message that access has ended |
| A payment was made by a user whose account is not activated yet | SMS or email, plus Telegram if it is linked | Login details for the account |
| The student was added to a group with a Telegram channel or chat | Telegram | A message from the school bot with invite links |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Students do not get notifications about being given access to a course, about access ending soon or about new lessons. Tell students about such events yourself — for example, through the group channel in the messenger.

## Notifications for the school team

| A student submitted practice | The student's curator | A message in the chat with the curator and push | “My practice for lesson "…"” with the work card |

Sales and refund notifications do not go to the feed: they arrive only as a push notification and an email. Learn more about webhooks in [Webhooks](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/developers/webhooks.md).

## Notification feed

The **Notifications** item in the menu opens the feed. On a computer, you can also use the bell icon in the header.

* The feed has two blocks: **New notifications** and **Recently read**.
* Each block shows the 15 latest notifications. Older ones are not visible in the feed.
* A dot on a card means the notification is unread. Click it to mark the notification as read.
* The **Read all** button marks all new notifications as read at once.
* You cannot delete a notification or mark it as unread again.
* The number of unread notifications is shown next to the **Notifications** item and on the bell icon. If there are more than 9, it shows “9+”.

While the website is open in the browser, a new notification appears in a pop-up card for 60 seconds. If the browser tab with the website is inactive, its title flashes “🔔 New notification”. The mobile app has no pop-up cards — push notifications arrive there instead.

## How to turn on push notifications

**1. In the browser**

Open the **Notifications** feed and click **Enable notifications** in the “Don't miss the events” card. Then allow notifications in the browser window.

**2. In the mobile app**

Sign in to the school's app and allow notifications when the phone asks. Learn more in [Mobile app](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/mobile-app/mobile-app.md).

**3. Link Telegram (optional)**

Open **Settings → Account settings** and click the **Telegram** row. The row is visible only if the school has a Telegram bot connected. How to connect the bot is described in [School Telegram bot](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/communication/telegram-bot.md).

## How to turn off notifications

* **Notifications for one chat.** In the chat menu, choose **Turn off sound**. In a channel, click **Turn off notifications**. Push notifications and pop-up cards for this chat stop. The unread counter keeps working.
* **All push notifications in the browser.** Block notifications for the school website in the browser settings. There is no separate toggle on the platform.
* **Push notifications in the app.** Block notifications for the app in the phone settings.
* **Telegram.** Click the **Telegram** row in **Settings → Account settings** and confirm **Unlink**.
* **Email.** You cannot unsubscribe from emails: there is no unsubscribe link in them.

## Edge cases

* **Several devices.** A push notification arrives on every device where the user is signed in and has allowed notifications.
* **Signing out.** After the user signs out on a device, push notifications no longer arrive there.
* **No app and no notifications allowed in the browser.** There will be no push notifications, but the feed keeps filling up.
* **The user has no email.** No emails are sent to them, and no error occurs. Email confirmation is not checked: the email goes to the address in the account.
* **Language.** The notification text is created in the language the user chose on the platform. Notifications already received are not translated when the language changes.
* **Email sender.** The sender field shows the school name.
* **Retries.** The platform retries an unsent email up to 5 times. A push notification that could not be delivered is not sent again.

## Frequently asked questions

> **Can I turn off certain types of notifications for students?**
>
> No. Right now neither the school nor students have settings for notifications by event type or channel. A student can turn off notifications for a single chat or block notifications in the browser and on the phone.

> **Why doesn't a student get push notifications?**
>
> Check that the student allowed notifications in the browser or in the app and did not sign out on this device. For a specific chat, check whether **Turn off sound** was chosen. The author of a message does not get a notification about their own message.

> **Do message notifications arrive by email or in Telegram?**
>
> No. For new messenger messages, the platform sends only push notifications.

> **Who on the team gets notifications about new payments?**
>
> Active staff with the **School sales** permission. The notification arrives as a push notification with a copy by email. It does not go to the notification feed.

> **Can I send a newsletter to students from the platform?**
>
> No, there are no newsletters in the interface: the **Newsletters and notifications** page is empty for now. To tell a group of students something, use the group channel in the messenger. Learn more in [Messenger](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/communication/messenger.md).

> **Does the platform remind students about lessons and deadlines?**
>
> No. There are no notifications about new lessons, deadlines or access ending soon. The school bot sends only login details, the password recovery code, messages about a failed charge and about access closed for non-payment, and invitations to Telegram groups and channels. There are no course or webinar reminders.

> **Where do old notifications go?**
>
> They are not deleted, but the feed shows only the 15 latest new and 15 latest read notifications.

> **How can a student unsubscribe from emails?**
>
> They cannot: there is no unsubscribe link in the emails. Most emails are service ones: payment, login codes, password recovery, messages about charges.

> **In which language do notifications arrive?**
>
> In the language the user chose on the platform. The new payment notification arrives to all staff in the school owner's language.
