# Reviews

> Who can leave a course review, how moderation works, how the rating is calculated and how to set up collecting reviews and lesson ratings

Students leave a course review after completing it: they give a rating and write a text. Each new review first goes to your team for moderation. The course page shows only published reviews, and only they affect the course rating.

Reviews are located in the course's **Settings → Reviews**.

## How a student leaves a review

**1. The student completes the course**

The “Rate the course” form appears on the course completion screen if review collection is on.

**2. Gives a rating**

The rating is from 0.5 to 5 stars. In the browser, a student can give half a star, and in the mobile app only whole stars.

**3. Writes a text**

The text is optional. Under the field, the student sees the warning “Other students will see your review”.

**4. Submits the review**

The **Leave a review** button. While the review is under moderation, the student sees the marks “Review under moderation” and “Review sent and will be published soon”.

### Rules

| Rule | How it works |
| - | - |
| Who can leave a review | A student who has access to the course |
| How many reviews | One review per course from one student. Submitting again updates the previous review |
| Editing by the student | The student can change their review with the **Update** button |
| Status of a new review | **Under review** |

> [!NOTE]
>
> If a student changes the review text, the review goes back to moderation and gets the **Under review** status: a published review disappears from the course page until moderation, and a rejected one returns to the queue. If the student changed only the rating, the status stays the same.

## Review moderation

The **Participant reviews** list shows all course reviews with any status. The counter next to the heading shows their total number.

In each review card:

| Element | What you can do |
| - | - |
| Author and date | View only |
| Stars | Change the rating |
| **Participant's review** | Correct the review text |
| **Response to review** | Write a response, up to 255 characters |
| **Status** | **Under review**, **Published** or **Rejected** |

After any change, a **Save** button appears in the card. Without it, the changes aren't applied.

| Status | Where the review is visible |
| - | - |
| **Under review** | Only in the control panel and to the author |
| **Published** | On the course page, in the “Student reviews” block |
| **Rejected** | Only in the control panel |

> [!WARNING]
>
> The **Response to review** is saved only in the control panel. Students currently don't see it on the course page. Use the field for internal notes, for example to record the reason for rejection.

Changing the text and rating changes what other students see. Use this only to fix typos, keeping the meaning of the review. If you change the text, the review returns to the **Under review** status after saving — to publish it again, select **Published** and save once more. Changing only the rating does not change the status.

### Access rights

| Action | Required permission |
| - | - |
| Viewing the review list | **Product management** or **Course comment management** |
| Changing the status and the **Response to review** | **Product management** or **Course comment management** |
| Editing the text and rating | **Product management** |
| Settings of the **Feedback collection** block | **Course management** |

The **Course comment management** permission works together with the **Course browsing** permission.

## Reviews on the course page

The “Student reviews” block first shows the three earliest published reviews. The **Show more** button loads the next ten. If there are no published reviews, the block is not shown.

## Course rating

The rating is the average of the ratings of all published reviews. It is shown on the course card in the catalog and on the course page.

* Reviews with the **Under review** and **Rejected** statuses are not included in the rating.
* Until the course has at least one published review, the rating is 5.
* Lesson ratings are not included in the course rating.

## Feedback collection

The **Feedback collection** block at the top of the page defines which reviews and ratings students of this course leave.

| Switch | What it does | Default |
| - | - | - |
| **Course review after completion** | Shows the student a review form after they complete the course | On |
| **Lesson rating** | Students rate lessons while learning | On |

If lesson rating is on, choose the mode:

* **By lesson** — a rating at the end of each lesson. This mode is selected by default.
* **By module** — a rating in the last lesson of a module.

A course bundle has no lesson rating, because it has no lessons of its own.
