# Technical documentation

> An overview of tools for developers and integrators: the school API, webhooks, custom code, exports, custom pages with mini apps and the Exode SDK.

This section is for developers and integrators who connect the school to CRMs, HR systems, bots, ad accounts and their own services. It gives an overview of the tools: what each one does, where it is set up and where to look for details.

A school owner does not need this section for everyday work: all settings are available in the interface.

## Where the tools are

The developer tools are collected in **Control panel → My school → For developers** (in a corporate school — **Control panel → Company → For developers**):

* **Webhooks** — notifications about school events sent to your server;
* **API keys** — access to the school API;
* **Custom code** — your own scripts and styles on the school website;
* **API documentation** — a link to the developer reference [docs.exode.biz](https://docs.exode.biz).

## Integration tools

| Tool | What it is for | Where to set it up | Details |
| - | - | - | - |
| School API | Your server creates and finds users, enrolls them in courses, reads progress, accesses and invoices, starts exports | **For developers → API keys** | [API](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/developers/api.md) |
| Webhooks | The platform itself notifies your server about sign-ups, payments (commercial schools only), enrollments, progress and certificates | **For developers → Webhooks** | [Webhooks](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/developers/webhooks.md) |
| Custom code | Counters, ad pixels, chat widgets, your own styles. The platform automatically sends goal events to Yandex Metrica, Google Analytics, Meta Pixel and VK Ads | **For developers → Custom code** | [Custom code](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/developers/custom-code.md) |
| Exports | Tables of payments, installments and subscriptions (commercial schools only), students, users and practice attempts in Excel, CSV or JSON — from the interface or through the API | The export button in the table header | [Tables and exports](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/analytics/dashboards.md) |
| Custom pages | Your own school page with your web app inside. The app receives signed user data | **My school → Apps & pages** (in a corporate school — **Company → Apps & pages**) | [Documentation](https://docs.exode.biz/en/customization/custom-pages) |
| Integrations | A catalog of ready-made apps and integrations for the school | **My school → Integrations** (in a corporate school — **Company → Integrations**) | — |
| Exode SDK | The `@exode-team/sdk` package for Node.js and the browser: an API client and a library for mini apps | — | [Documentation](https://docs.exode.biz/en/exode-sdk/overview) |

## Typical tasks

| Task | How to solve it |
| - | - |
| Send payments and new enrollments to a CRM | Webhooks for the **Payment completed** and **User registration for the course through payment** events (commercial schools only) |
| Create students and grant access from your own system | API methods for users and course enrollment |
| Track course completion | The **Course progress updated**, **Course completed** and **Certificate issued** webhooks, or API methods for progress |
| Pull reports regularly | Starting exports through the API and downloading the ready file |
| Sync employees with an HR system or 1C | API methods for departments, positions and employees — only in corporate schools, see [API and organization structure sync](https://faq.exode.biz/en/corporate/api.md) |
| Measure ad conversions | Pixels and counters in custom code |
| Embed your own service in the school | A custom page with a mini app |

## What you need to know

* **All API requests are made on behalf of a key.** A key is a service user of the school with its own permissions. Only the school owner can issue keys, and a school can have no more than 5 keys.
* **Every request needs the school identifiers.** Seller-Id and School-Id are shown in the **Integration data** block on the API keys page.
* **Webhooks are set up only in the control panel.** You cannot manage them through the API. A school can have no more than 5 webhooks.
* **The set of features depends on the type of school.** Corporate schools have no payment events, while the methods for employees and organization structure, on the contrary, work only in them.
* **Keep secrets on the server.** Do not put the API key token or the webhook secret into custom code: any visitor of the school can see it.

## Frequently asked questions

> **Where is the full API documentation?**
>
> At [docs.exode.biz](https://docs.exode.biz). The link is also in **My school → For developers → API documentation** (in a corporate school — **Company → For developers → API documentation**) and on the API keys page.

> **Do I need a developer to connect the school to a CRM?**
>
> For webhooks and the API, you need a service that receives or sends requests. It can be your own server, a ready-made connector or an automation service that can receive POST requests. You can add pixels and counters to custom code without programming.

> **The API does not have the method I need. What should I do?**
>
> Write to Exode support and describe the task: what data you need and what the method should do. How to make a request is described in the documentation — [Request an API method](https://docs.exode.biz/en/exode-api/common/request-new-method).

> **How are webhooks different from the API?**
>
> The API is requests from your server to the school: to get data or change something. Webhooks are requests from the school to your server when something happens. They are usually used together: a webhook reports an event, and the API lets you request details or perform an action.

> **Can I change the look of the school with my own CSS?**
>
> Yes, on the **CSS** tab of the **Custom code** section. Keep in mind that the platform's design may change with updates, and rules tied to internal classes may stop working.

> **Do integrations work in the mobile app?**
>
> The API and webhooks do not depend on where the student studies: events in the app are the same as on the website. The mobile app opens the school website, so custom code loads in it too.
