# Left site menu

> How to add your own items with links to school pages and external websites to the school's side menu.

The left menu is the school's side navigation. It has built-in sections, for example **My learning** and **Catalog**. Below them, you can add your own items: links to school pages, useful materials or external websites.

The settings are in **My school → Settings → Left site menu** (in a corporate school — **Company → Settings → Left site menu**), in the **Left menu configuration** block.

## What the menu already has

The platform shows these items by itself. You can't remove them or change their order.

| Item | When it is shown |
| - | - |
| **My learning** | Always |
| **Messenger** | To a student after signing in |
| **Catalog** | Always |
| **Knowledge base** | If the knowledge base is in the tariff and turned on for students |
| **My rating** | To a student after signing in, if the tariff includes gamification |

Your items go after the built-in ones. On a computer they appear in the left menu, on a phone and in the app — in the **Menu** tab.

## How to add an item

**1. Open the form**

Click **Add item** to the right of the block title. The **Creating a menu item** window opens.

**2. Choose an icon**

Click the round icon at the top of the form and choose a picture from the set. If you don't choose anything, the standard icon stays.

**3. Enter the title**

The **Title** field already contains the text “Block title” — replace it. The limit is 100 characters. If the school has several languages, click the field to enter a translation for each language.

**4. Enter the link**

The **Link** field contains `/` by default. Enter the address you need — up to 250 characters.

**5. Save**

Click **Save**. The item appears in the menu for all users right away.

## Which link to use

The platform determines by itself where the link leads.

| Link | How it opens |
| - | - |
| A school page path, for example `/catalog` | Inside the school website, in the same tab |
| A full address on your school's domain | Inside the school website, if there is a platform page at this address |
| Another website's address, for example `https://t.me/...` | In a new browser tab |

> [!NOTE]
>
> If an item leads to a school page that is not available to everyone, students without access to this page won't see the item.

## Managing items

* **Order.** Drag an item with the mouse to a new place. The new order is saved right away.
* **Editing.** Click the pencil icon. The **Editing the menu item** window opens.
* **Deleting.** Click the trash icon and confirm the **Delete block?** action.

While you have no items of your own, the block says **The menu has not been filled out yet**. Staff with access to the website design also see a **Configure menu** link at the bottom of the left menu, which leads to this section.

## Items for school pages

You can create a menu item together with a school page. In **My school → Apps & pages** (in a corporate school — **Company → Apps & pages**), in the page form, choose **Show in menu → Student menu**. The platform adds an item with a link to the page by itself.

* If you rename the page or change its address, the item is updated.
* If you delete the page or choose another display option, the item disappears from the menu.
* An item you added manually earlier with the same link is replaced with the automatic one.

## Frequently asked questions

> **Can I hide built-in items, for example “Catalog”?**
>
> No, the menu settings don't hide built-in items. The **Knowledge base** and **My rating** items appear only with the corresponding tariff features and school settings.

> **Can I upload my own icon for an item?**
>
> No. You can only choose an icon from the set that opens when you click the round icon in the form.

> **Why is the “Save” button inactive?**
>
> The title or the link is empty, or a limit is exceeded: 100 characters for the title and 250 for the link. Each field has a character counter under it.

> **Why isn't the title saved even though it's shorter than 100 characters?**
>
> If you entered translations into several languages, the 100-character limit applies to all title versions together, and the counter under the field counts them all. Shorten the translations.

> **A student doesn't see my menu item. Why?**
>
> Most likely, the item leads to a school page the student doesn't have access to. Such items are hidden. Check the page's access settings in the **Apps & pages** section.

> **An external link opens inside the website. How do I fix this?**
>
> Links to your domain open inside the website. If you need a new tab, enter another website's address.

> **Do visitors who haven't signed in see the menu items?**
>
> Yes, your items are visible to everyone. The exception is items with a link to a school page that opens only after signing in or only for some users.
