# Video watch filter

> How the percentage in the “Video” filter of the student list is calculated and how to export students who watched every video of the course

The student list — **People → All students** or **Courses → course → Students** — has the **“Video”** filter. It keeps students who watched the course videos up to a set percentage, for example from 80 to 100%. The filter also works for export: the export button downloads to Excel exactly the list you filtered.

## How the percentage is calculated

The percentage is calculated for the whole course, not for a single lesson. It is an average across all course videos, where each video weighs as much as it lasts. The result is rounded down to a whole number.

* If all videos have the same length, you get a plain average. Ten videos watched at 10%, 20%, … 100% give 55%.
* If the lengths differ, long videos have more weight. A 60-minute video watched at 10% and a 5-minute video watched at 100% give 16%, not 55%.
* Videos the student has not opened yet count as 0%.

If no course is selected in the **“Course”** filter, each row of the list is checked against its own course.

## Which videos count

The calculation includes videos from published lessons of the course. These do not count:

* videos in unpublished lessons and in lessons of unpublished modules;
* deleted videos and lessons;
* lessons turned off for all of the student's groups in this course on the **“Access to lessons”** page. If the student is not in any group of the course, all published lessons count;
* videos with no duration set.

> [!WARNING]
>
> If the course has no videos that count, its students have no percentage. Such students do not get into the list at any filter value, not even “to 0%”.

## How to export students who watched every video

**1. Open the course students**

Go to **People → All students** and select the course in the **“Course”** filter, or open **Courses → course → Students**.

**2. Set the “Video” filter**

Enter the value **from 100%**.

**3. Export the list**

Click the export button. The file includes only the students who stayed in the list after filtering.

> [!TIP]
>
> Because of rounding down, “from 100%” keeps only those who watched every course video to the end. A student with a result of 99.9% does not get into the list.

The export has no column with the watch percentage. The filter only decides who gets into the file.

## How it differs from progress in the student card

On the **“Progress”** tab of the [student card](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/users/user-card.md), viewing is shown for each lesson, and inside a lesson for each video. The filter calculates one percentage for the whole course. So you cannot compare the card numbers and the filter value directly.

## Frequently asked questions

> **A student watched almost all videos but does not match the “from 100%” filter. Why?**
>
> To get 100%, the student must watch every course video to the end. One unfinished or unopened video is enough to make the result less than 100%. The result is rounded down, so 99.9% becomes 99%.

> **A student watched most of the videos, but the percentage is low. Why?**
>
> Long videos weigh more than short ones. If the student skipped one long video, the result can be lower than after skipping several short ones.

> **Why can't I find the course students at any filter value?**
>
> The course has no videos that count. For example, there are no videos at all, lessons with videos are not published, or the videos have no duration set.

> **Do videos from lessons turned off for a group count?**
>
> No, if the lesson is turned off in all of the student's groups in this course. If the lesson is open in at least one of their groups, the video counts.

> **Does the filter apply to the Excel export?**
>
> Yes. The export button downloads the current filtered list, including the “Video” filter.
