# Sales funnels

> Which platform tools to build a sales funnel from: acquisition, free entry, payment, retention and passing data to a CRM.

The school interface has no separate funnel builder with email chains and automatic steps. You build a funnel from the platform's ready-made tools: tags and pixels, free courses and demo lessons, tariffs and promo codes, the Telegram bot and webhooks. Below is which tools work at each stage and how to connect them.

## Tools by funnel stage

| Stage | What to use | Learn more |
| - | - | - |
| Acquisition | UTM tags in ad links, Meta, Google Analytics, Yandex Metrica and VK Ads pixels | [UTM tags and pixels](https://faq.exode.biz/en/online-schools/marketing/utm-tags.md) |
| Lead magnet | A free course, demo lessons with free access, quick sign-in with Telegram | [Launch and tariffs](https://faq.exode.biz/en/online-schools/sales-payments/launches-and-pricing.md), [Lesson settings](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/lessons-modules/settings.md) |
| Payment | Tariffs, installments, subscriptions, promo codes and discounts | [Launch and tariffs](https://faq.exode.biz/en/online-schools/sales-payments/launches-and-pricing.md), [Promo codes and discounts](https://faq.exode.biz/en/online-schools/sales-payments/promocodes-discounts.md) |
| After payment | A redirect to your thank-you page, enrollment in a group, an invitation to the Telegram channel and chat | [School Telegram bot](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/communication/telegram-bot.md) |
| Retention | Stars and rating, course completion certificates | [Gamification](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/gamification/gamification.md), [Certificates](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/gamification/certificates) |
| Analytics and CRM | Tags in user and payment cards, webhooks, API | [Webhooks](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/developers/webhooks.md), [API](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/developers/api.md) |

## Acquisition and source tracking

* **UTM tags.** The platform remembers the tags from the link on its own and saves them at registration and payment. You see the registration source in **People → All users**, and the payment source in **Sales → Payments**.
* **Pixels.** You add the counter code in **My school → For developers → Custom code**. Then the platform sends the events on its own: registration, course view, demo lesson opening, free course enrollment, going to payment, payment and course completion.

You can use these events for retargeting: for example, to reach people who opened a demo lesson but did not go to payment.

## Free entry into the funnel

* **Free course.** The student enrolls without paying. The pixels get the free course enrollment event, and external systems get the **Enrollment in a free course** webhook.
* **Demo lesson.** In the lesson settings, turn on **Free access (demo)** — the lesson “will be available to any user without enrollment”. Then the enrollment banner on the course page opens the demo lesson, and the pixels get the event of opening it.
* **Sign-in with Telegram.** The **Sign in with Telegram** button cuts registration down to one tap. How to connect it is described in [School Telegram bot](https://faq.exode.biz/en/general/communication/telegram-bot.md).

## Payment and the steps after it

**1. Offer a tariff and a promo code**

Set up the course tariffs and give out a promo code for a specific channel. The promo code's **Internal note** field is a handy place to record which funnel it was created for.

**2. Collect Telegram before payment**

If you need to add the student to a Telegram channel after purchase, turn on **Request Telegram before payment** in the group. Without a linked Telegram, the student cannot go to payment.

**3. Bring the buyer back to your page**

Set **Redirect after payment** in the tariff — a link to your thank-you page. The platform adds the payment's UTM tags to it, and you see the source of the sale on your page.

**4. Invite them to the community**

If the tariff enrolls the student in a group with Telegram connected, the school bot immediately sends them personal invitations to the group's channel and chat.

## Passing data to a CRM

To guide students through the funnel in an external CRM or mailing service, connect webhooks in **My school → For developers → Webhooks**. For a funnel, you most often need these events:

| Event | When it fires |
| - | - |
| **The user has registered** | A new user registered on their own |
| **The user has filled in the data** | The user filled in and sent the introduction form |
| **User connected Telegram** | The user linked Telegram to their profile |
| **Enrollment in a free course** | A student enrolled in a free course |
| **User registration for the course through payment** | A student got access after payment |
| **Payment completed** | A payment went through successfully |
| **Subscription expires in 7 days** and **Subscription expires in 1 day** | The paid subscription period ends soon |
| **Refund completed** | A refund was made for a payment |
| **Course completed** | A student completed a course |
| **Certificate issued** | A student was issued a certificate |

Together with the user data, webhooks pass the registration UTM tags, and course enrollment events also pass the tags of that enrollment. This way the CRM sees which channel each lead came from.

## What the platform does not have

* A visual funnel builder and automatic chains of emails, SMS or messages.
* Mass newsletters to students from the school interface, including through the Telegram bot.
* A referral program for the school's students.

These steps are done in external services that receive data through webhooks and the API.

## Frequently asked questions

> **Can I set up an automatic email chain after registration?**
>
> The school interface has no built-in chains. Connect the **The user has registered** webhook to a mailing service or CRM — it will receive the new user's data together with UTM tags and start the chain on its side.

> **How do I find out which ad channel brings sales?**
>
> Mark your links with UTM tags. The tags at payment are visible in **Sales → Payments**, in the **UTM when purchasing** block, and you can filter the payment list with the **UTM filter** button. Learn more in [UTM tags and pixels](https://faq.exode.biz/en/online-schools/marketing/utm-tags.md).

> **Is there a referral program for students?**
>
> No, there is no built-in referral program for the school's students. The **Partnership** item in the staff profile menu is the partner program of the Exode platform itself: you recommend the platform to others and get up to 15% of each referred client's payment. The **Start earning** button opens the support chat in Telegram.

> **How do I let people try a course before buying?**
>
> Mark one or more lessons as demo: in the lesson settings, turn on **Free access (demo)**. Such a lesson opens to any user without enrolling in the course. Another option is a separate free course.

> **How do I remind a student that their subscription ends soon?**
>
> Connect the **Subscription expires in 7 days** and **Subscription expires in 1 day** webhooks to your mailing service. If a subscription charge fails or the subscription ends, the school bot sends a message to students with linked Telegram on its own.

> **Can I send a newsletter to all students through the Telegram bot?**
>
> No. The bot sends only invitations to the group's channel and chat and service messages. For regular messages to students, use the group's Telegram channel.

> **How do I track a purchase in the ad account?**
>
> Install the pixel through **Custom code**. The platform sends the payment event on its own when the buyer opens the successful payment page within 5 minutes after the payment. The event names for each system are in [UTM tags and pixels](https://faq.exode.biz/en/online-schools/marketing/utm-tags.md).
