Every school on Exode has one of two types. A school sells courses to students: it has prices, payments and sales. A company trains employees: there are no sales, all courses are free, and employees are assigned to training. In the interface, a corporate school is called exactly that — a “company”: for example, the menu says Company instead of My school.

How the type is set

  • The creation form always creates a school that sells courses. See Registration and school creation.
  • The Exode team turns on the corporate type. There is no type switch in the settings.
  • Only the Exode team can change the type of an existing school — write to support.

How the types differ

What only a school that sells courses has

  • The Sales section: invoices, installments, student subscriptions.
  • Payment acceptance — connecting a payment provider. See Payment acceptance.
  • Legal data — the school’s details and documents. See Legal data.
  • Subscription and tariff — choosing and paying for an Exode tariff on your own. See Subscription and tariffs.
  • Prices and the “Free” badge on course cards.
  • Webhooks about payments, refunds and course enrollment via payment.

What only a company has

  • Organization structure: departments, Positions, Grades and Absences. The section is in the Company menu.
  • Access & assignments in the course menu — the ways to enroll in a course:
    • By assignment — the course is assigned manually or automatically by a rule;
    • By invite link — enrollment via a private link created by an administrator;
    • Open enrollment — the employee enrolls on their own from the catalog or via a public link. It works only if the course is visible in the catalog;
    • By application — in development.
  • Automatic assignments — the course is assigned to employees automatically, by department or position. The rules are set for each course group.
  • The “Staff management” and “Staff browsing” staff permissions.
  • Integration with the Verifix HRM system in the Integrations section: employees, departments and positions are transferred to the company structure.
A company course must keep at least one enrollment method. By default, a new course has the By assignment method turned on. Learn more about working in corporate mode in Corporate mode: overview.

What happens when a company is created

  • Registration is closed to website visitors. You can open it in Login and registration.
  • The “Main department” department and the “Manager” position are created. The owner immediately becomes an employee and the head of this department in this position.
  • When you add a user manually or by import, you need to specify their place in the company structure.

Changing the type

The Exode team changes the type at your request. Here is what happens to the data.

Switching to a company

  • All courses and products become free, and courses are hidden from the catalog.
  • All course launches start giving unlimited access. Launch drafts are published, and launches you unpublished stay unpublished.
  • Courses without employee access settings become available only to assigned editors and curators. If you have already set up access to a course, the setting is kept.
  • Registration is closed to visitors.
  • If there is no structure yet, two departments are created: a top one named after the school and a nested “Main department”. The owner becomes the head of the top department. All users without a place in the structure go to the “Main department”.
  • Access already granted and students’ existing payments don’t change.

Switching back to course sales

Only the type and interface sections change. Courses stay free and hidden from the catalog, and registration stays closed. You need to set up prices, course visibility and registration again manually.
The school type affects sections, permissions and data. Decide on it before you fill the school with courses and invite users.
