The Control panel → Home section is the start screen of your school management. It gathers the key metrics for the selected period: how many users and students you have, how many courses were sold, what your revenue is, how many people visit the school and how often students finish their courses. Below the cards there are charts of course enrollments, revenue and users online over time. This article explains how to use the section. The exact rules for every number are described in How metrics are calculated.

Who can see the section

The section opens for staff members with the School settings management permission (in a corporate school — Company settings management). Some blocks need extra permissions: If you do not have the permission for a block, you see a Failed to load placeholder instead. You set staff permissions in My school → Team (in a corporate school — Company → Administrators). Learn more in Access rights. Permissions in a company are described in Roles and permissions in a company.

Metric cards

The top of the section is a row of cards. If the cards do not fit on the screen, scroll the row with the arrows. Next to each card name there is a question mark icon. Hover over it to see a short definition of the metric. There are two kinds of metrics:
  • as of the end of the period — the state at the last moment of the selected period, for example the total number of users;
  • for the period — what happened within the period, for example revenue.
Revenue is shown in short form: thousands as “K”, millions as “M”, billions as “B”. Hover over the number to see the exact amount. The school’s main currency is shown next to it.
Corporate schools have no sales. That is why they have no Courses sold and Revenue cards, and instead of Courses on sale they see the Published card — all published courses as of the end of the period. The revenue chart and the Purchase series on the enrollments chart are hidden too. How to track employee training in a company is explained in Training reports.

Comparison with the previous period

In the top right corner of a card there is a badge with the change in percent. The platform compares the selected period with the previous period of the same length that comes right before it.
  • For “as of the end of the period” metrics, it compares the state at the end of the current period and at the end of the previous one.
  • For “for the period” metrics, it compares the totals of both periods.
The percentage is rounded to one decimal place.

Charts

Below the cards there are three charts (in a corporate school — two, without the revenue chart). Empty intervals on the charts are shown as zero, not as a gap.

Course enrollments

The chart shows how many course accesses were granted during the period. The header shows the total number of enrollments. Each enrollment goes into one of four series, depending on how the access was granted: An installment payment or a subscription renewal does not create a new enrollment: only the first payment goes into the Purchase series. Signing up for a free tariff counts as an open enrollment, not a purchase.

Payment revenue

The chart (commercial schools only) shows paid payments over time by day, week or month. A payment goes into the interval in which it was paid. Unlike the Revenue card, the chart does not subtract refunds.

Users online

The chart shows how many distinct users were online in each interval. A user goes into an interval when they connect to the school or go offline. All school users are counted, including staff.
You can change the view of the Payment revenue and Users online charts: Line, Area, Points or Bars. The switcher is in the chart header. Area is selected by default.

Choosing the period

You set the period in the panel above the cards.
1

Choose a preset period

Open the Period list and choose a preset, for example This month. When you change the preset, the custom date range and the breakdown are reset.
2

Set your own dates if needed

In the calendar next to it, set the start and end of the period. Your own range takes priority over the preset: while it is set, the preset does not apply.
3

Choose the chart breakdown

The switcher on the right sets the step of the points on the charts: by minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, quarters or years. Only the options that fit the length of the period are available.
By default, the Last 30 days period opens: 29 past days and today.

Preset periods

The “This week”, “This month”, “This quarter” and “This year” periods include days that have not come yet. On the charts, these days are shown as zeros.

Custom date range

If you set the dates manually, the breakdown is chosen by the length of the range: If the breakdown you chose earlier does not fit the new range, the platform picks the closest available one. A week on the charts always starts on Monday.
The period and the breakdown are saved in the page address. Copy the link from the address bar to show a colleague the same view. If the link has a preset, for example Today, your colleague sees the data for their own current day.

How often the data updates

The data does not refresh on the screen by itself. To get fresh numbers, click the refresh button in the section header or reload the page. The analytics service caches responses, so new events appear with a delay: If you click refresh earlier, you get the same numbers from the cache. All dates are calculated in your browser’s time zone. Staff members in different time zones see different day boundaries and may get different numbers for “Today”.

Frequently asked questions

The Revenue card includes only paid payments, and they are grouped by payment date. The Payments table shows all invoices by default, including unpaid ones, and the Creation date filter selects them by the invoice creation date. Also, the card subtracts completed refunds and counts payments in only one currency. A detailed breakdown is in How metrics are calculated.
The numbers on the cards can lag behind real events by up to 2 minutes, and on the charts by up to 5 minutes. The numbers on an open page do not change by themselves: to load new data, click the refresh button in the section header or reload the page.
The card subtracts refunds completed in the selected period. The chart shows incoming payments without subtracting refunds. If there were refunds in the period, the card is lower than the sum of the points on the chart.
The dash means the selected period starts on the day the school was connected or earlier. The school has no previous period of the same length, so there is nothing to compare with. This is always the case for the All time period.
The This month period includes days that have not come yet, and it is compared with the previous period of the same length, which has fully passed. In the first days of the month, revenue and sales are almost always lower. For a fair comparison, set the period manually, for example from the 1st to today.
Users are everyone registered in the school, even without a single course. This number includes school staff. Students are only those who have active access to at least one course or product.
Most likely, you do not have the permission for this block. The revenue chart needs the School sales permission, and the enrollments and online charts need School user management (in a corporate school — Company user management). If you have the permissions, reload the page: the placeholder also appears on a temporary loading error.
Day boundaries are calculated in the browser’s time zone. If you and your colleague are in different time zones, “Today” starts at a different time for each of you, and different payments and enrollments fall into the period.
Some metrics use the current state of the data. For example, deleted users disappear from the Users card for all periods. A student whose access has ended is no longer counted on the Students card. A full refund for a course removes the purchase from the Courses sold card.
No, the Home section has no export. You can export records on payments, installments and subscriptions (commercial schools only), students and users from the table sections — see Tables and exports.
