Practice is a set of tasks for a lesson or a module with content. The student completes the tasks and submits an attempt. The platform checks tasks with closed answers by itself, and the curator checks detailed answers. The practice result decides whether the student gets access to the next lesson.

How practice works

  • Tasks: questions of different types. Learn more in Task types.
  • Variants: sets of tasks. Practice always has at least one variant. If there are several variants, different students and different attempts can get different sets.
  • Attempt: one run of the practice by a student. An attempt goes from “Awaiting submission” to its final status.
  • Mode: what the student sees after submitting: Education, Testing or Exam. Learn more in Lesson and practice settings.

Creating practice

1

Turn on practice

Open the lesson and turn on the Practice for the lesson toggle in the lesson menu (for a module with content, Practice for the module). The Practice section becomes active.
2

Add tasks

In the Practice section, on the Tasks tab, select a type in the “Add new task” block or click From task database. You can also generate tasks with AI, see below.
3

Set up the progression

On the Settings tab, choose the mode, the threshold of correct answers, the attempt limit, the time limit and the deadline.
4

Check what the student sees

Click Preview below the list of attempts in the lesson. The preview shows active variants with tasks. Answers are not saved in the preview.
You cannot add practice to a demo lesson (demo lessons exist only in commercial schools). If the lesson is open without payment, the practice section is locked. Learn more in Creating lessons and modules.
If you turn off Practice for the lesson, the practice is hidden from students, and the tasks are kept. When you turn it on again, they come back.

Variants

Variants are shown as tabs “Variant 1”, “Variant 2” and so on above the list of tasks.
  • Create variant adds an empty variant.
  • Duplicate copies the variant with all its tasks.
  • Deactivate switches the variant to draft. A draft is not assigned to students. Activate puts the variant back to work.
  • Delete removes the variant together with its tasks. You cannot delete the last variant.
Students get only active variants that have at least one task. If there is more than one variant, a “Variant distribution” block appears in the practice Settings.

Generating tasks with AI

On the Tasks tab, you can generate tasks from the lesson content.
1

Open generation

Click the Generate with AI • beta button on the Tasks tab.
2

Set the parameters

Enter the Number of tasks (from 1 to 50), choose the Difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard or Mixed) and the task types.
3

Check the result

Click Generate. The progress is shown in percent, and you can stop generation with the Stop button. The tasks appear in the “Generated tasks” block. You can open and edit each one, then Accept or Reject it.
  • An accepted task is added to the variant that is open at the moment. Until you click Accept, the task is not in the practice and students do not see it.
  • AI uses the lesson text, Notion pages and pinned files. If the lesson has no content, the tasks are based on the lesson name and description.
  • AI takes into account the tasks already in the practice and tries not to repeat them.
  • AI creates only auto-checked tasks: single and multiple choice, logical choice, short answer, fill in the blanks, matching and arrange the words. AI does not generate detailed answers or tasks with attachments.
  • Generation is available to employees with the course management permission if the school’s tariff includes the “AI homework generation” feature. The limit is 20 runs per day.

How a student takes practice

1

Opens the practice

In the lesson, the student goes to Practice. From this moment, the practice deadline countdown starts, if a deadline is set.
2

Starts an attempt

The student clicks Start practicing (in testing mode, Start the test; in exam mode, Start the exam). Before starting, they see how many attempts are available and how much time is allowed.
3

Answers the tasks

Answers are saved automatically. If a time limit is set, a countdown runs at the top.
4

Finishes the attempt

The student clicks Complete. The platform counts the points and assigns a status to the attempt.
5

Sees the result

What exactly the student sees depends on the practice mode. If attempts are left, the Retake button is available.
After submission, the work appears in the student’s chat with the curator as the message “My practice for lesson ”…””. This is how the curator gets the work for review. Learn more in Practice check.

Attempt statuses

Only the Completed and Completed (auto) statuses count as passed.

What happens if…

  • The student did not answer some tasks. They can still finish the attempt. Tasks without an answer give 0 points.
  • The time for the attempt ran out. Answers are no longer saved or changed. The student needs to click Complete at the bottom of the page. The attempt is not submitted automatically.
  • The student opened the practice in two tabs and finished it in one. In the second tab, answers are no longer saved, and the practice updates to its current state.
  • You changed the tasks while a student is taking an attempt. An unfinished attempt picks up the current set of tasks in the variant. After submission, the set of tasks in the attempt is fixed, and later edits do not affect it.
  • You deleted a variant that students have attempts on. Attempts already created keep their tasks and points.

Frequently asked questions

Turn on the Practice for the lesson toggle in the lesson menu. If the lesson is open as a demo, practice is not available. A header module has no practice: switch the module to Module with content mode.
Their variant has a task with a detailed answer. Such an attempt goes to the curator as a whole, even if the other tasks were checked automatically.
The student clicks Retake below the list of attempts. If the attempt limit is used up, they see “No attempts left”. In this case, the curator can click Reset attempts in the student’s latest work.
That’s how variant distribution works. By default, the first attempt is assigned in order, and retakes are assigned at random, with priority to variants the student has not seen yet. You can change this in the practice Settings.
Generated tasks get into the practice only after you click Accept on each task.
Yes. Tasks without an answer give 0 points but do not prevent finishing the attempt. Whether it passes depends on the threshold of correct answers and the curator’s decision.
Yes. The practice deadline does not block submission, and the work is marked “Late” in the review list. Point reduction for lateness works only for group deadlines. Learn more in Group settings.
No. The Complete button is available at any moment while answers can still be saved. Unanswered tasks count as 0 points.
