Settings define the conditions under which a student completes a lesson and moves on to the next one. Some parameters belong to the lesson: video watch threshold, SCORM conditions, stars. Others belong to the practice: mode, threshold of correct answers, attempts, time and deadline.

Lesson settings

Open the lesson and go to Settings (“Design and parameters”). Changes are saved automatically. The buttons under the lesson card are: publication status, access type (commercial schools only), Create a copy, Preview and deletion. Learn more in Creating lessons and modules.

Video watch threshold

If the threshold is on, the student cannot go to the practice, to the next lesson or finish the lesson until they watch each lesson video to the required percentage. Instead of moving on, they see the “Videos must be watched” window with a list of unfinished videos and the Continue watching button. How the percentage is counted:
  • The threshold is checked for each lesson video separately. For example, with an 80% threshold and 10-minute and 50-minute videos, the student must watch at least 8 minutes of the first video and at least 40 minutes of the second one. If the student fully watched only the long video, they can’t move on.
  • Videos whose duration the platform could not detect are not counted. If the lesson has no video with a known duration, the threshold does not apply.
  • If the lesson is already completed, the check is not repeated.

SCORM completion threshold

  • SCORM completion threshold is checked for each package in the lesson separately: each one must be completed at least to the specified percentage.
  • Require passing the SCORM quiz blocks moving on if the quiz is failed in at least one package. Packages without a quiz and with a passed quiz pass the check.
  • Packages that are still being processed or failed to upload are not checked.
  • As with videos, until the packages are completed to the threshold, the student cannot go to the lesson’s practice.

Practice settings

Open the lesson → Practice → Settings tab. Changes are saved automatically. You set the practice name in the section header in the Custom name field, up to 120 characters.

Practice mode

Task explanations are shown only in Education mode.

Threshold of correct answers (stop lesson)

Turn on Threshold of correct answers (stop lesson) and enter the Minimum percentage of correct answers, from 0 to 100. The percentage is the student’s points divided by the maximum points of the variant.
  • If the attempt reaches the threshold, it gets the Completed (auto) status, and the next lesson opens.
  • If it does not, it gets Fail. On the last available attempt, it gets Attempts exhausted.
  • If the threshold is off or set to 0, any submitted auto-checked attempt counts as passed, even with a zero result.
  • If the variant has a detailed answer, the attempt goes to the curator, and the curator decides. The curator sees the hint “Scored X % of the Y % threshold”.

Limits

How the limits work:
  • Attempts. When the limit is used up, the student sees “No attempts left” with a hint to contact the curator. The curator can click Reset attempts, and the student gets the full limit again. Returning the work for revision does not use up an attempt.
  • Timer. When the time is up, answers are no longer saved or changed. The attempt has to be submitted with the Complete button. It is not submitted automatically. If the curator returned the work for revision, the timer is removed for it.
  • Deadline. The student sees a countdown in the practice card. After the deadline, the work can still be submitted. It is marked “Late” in the review list. The points are not reduced.
Point reduction and closing lessons for lateness are set up in the group deadlines, not in the practice. Learn more in Group settings.

Stars for practice

If gamification is turned on in the course, the Number of stars per 1 task point field appears. An empty field means the value from the course settings is used. Stars are awarded when the attempt is passed: the attempt points are multiplied by the number of stars per point. Learn more in Gamification.

Task display mode

Right now the List mode is available: all tasks are shown at once. The Sequence mode is marked “Coming soon” and is not available yet.

Variant distribution

This block appears if the practice has more than one variant. With random retry distribution, the platform first assigns variants the student has not received yet. Once they have seen all of them, the variant is picked from all active ones. With sequential distribution, the queue is shared by all students of the practice. Draft variants and variants without tasks are not assigned.

Sequential lesson unlocking

By default, students take lessons in order: the next lesson opens only when the conditions of the current one are met. If Free lesson progression is turned on in the course settings, students take lessons in any order and mark them manually. Learn more about course settings in Course settings.

When the next lesson opens

First, the content conditions must be met: the video watch threshold and the SCORM conditions. Then the practice rules apply: In any case, the curator can manually set the attempt status to Completed. The lesson counts as completed, and the next lesson opens.

Free progression

  • The student opens lessons in any order.
  • A lesson is marked manually with the Mark lesson as completed button. The mark can be removed.
  • If the lesson has practice with tasks, the student can mark the lesson only after the attempt is passed: Completed or Completed (auto). The threshold does not matter here: work under review is not passed yet.
  • Video and SCORM conditions apply in free mode too.
  • Only a student with active participation in the course can mark lessons.

Other reasons a lesson is closed

Even when the conditions are met, a lesson can be unavailable:
  • the lesson or its module is not published;
  • the lesson opens on the group schedule, and the student sees “The lesson will become available for completion …”;
  • the group access period has expired, or the lesson is turned off in the group;
  • a group deadline with the “Close” consequence is overdue; the curator can open the materials with the “Open access” button in the student card;
  • the course bundle has a course completion order.
Learn more in Group settings and Course bundles.

Edge cases

  • You changed the threshold after students submitted the practice. The statuses of already submitted attempts are not recalculated. The new threshold applies to the next attempts.
  • You reduced the attempt limit. If a student has already used more attempts than the new limit, they cannot start a new attempt.
  • The student submitted the work after a group deadline with the “Reduce points” consequence. The attempt points drop by 20%, at least by 1 point. The threshold is still counted by the points before the reduction.
  • The lesson is already completed, and the student submits the practice again. The status of the completed lesson is not lowered, even if the new attempt does not pass.

Frequently asked questions

Check in order: whether the video is watched up to the threshold, whether SCORM is completed, whether the practice with a threshold is passed, and whether the curator has checked the work with a detailed answer. If everything is done, check the publication of the lesson and module, and the group schedule and deadlines.
The threshold is checked for each video separately: if at least one video is not watched to the threshold, the student can’t move on. If the student skipped ahead, only the parts they actually watched count. The “Videos must be watched” window shows which videos are not fully watched.
In the lesson practice, open Settings, turn on Threshold of correct answers (stop lesson) and enter the minimum percentage. Until the student reaches the threshold, the next lesson stays closed.
No. If the threshold of correct answers is not turned on, any submitted auto-checked attempt counts as passed. Turn on the threshold so that only successful attempts pass.
Open the student’s latest work for this practice and click Reset attempts. This attempt and all earlier ones stop counting toward the limit. Learn more in Practice check.
Answers stop being saved, and the student sees “Time has run out”. The attempt is not submitted by itself: the student needs to click Complete. Points are counted from the answers saved before the time ran out.
No. After the deadline, the work can be submitted, and it is marked “Late”. You can close lessons or reduce points for lateness in the group deadlines.
The practice does not have a threshold of correct answers turned on. Without a threshold, the student moves on right after submitting the work. To wait for the curator’s review, turn on the threshold.
The default value from the course settings is used. The empty field shows the hint “The value from the course settings will be used”.
